This development complicates Arsenal’s plans. Zubimendi is believed to prefer staying in Spain, which could give Real Madrid an advantage. The 25-year-old midfielder, who is originally from the Basque Country, may find it more appealing to continue his career in La Liga.
Despite this, Arsenal still remain in a strong position. They are the only club ready to meet the full release clause, and they have reportedly offered Zubimendi a more lucrative salary than Real Madrid. The decision will ultimately depend on whether Zubimendi values staying in his home country more than the opportunity to play in the Premier League and earn a higher wage.
For now, Arsenal are still favourites to sign Martin Zubimendi, but the situation remains uncertain. With Real Madrid trying to hijack the deal at the last minute, the Gunners will need to act quickly to finalise the transfer.
