Real Madrid legend quits just days after Xabi Alonso was confirmed.
Raul Gonzalez, a legendary figure at Real Madrid, has officially stepped down as the head coach of Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s B team. This major decision comes shortly after the announcement that former teammate Xabi Alonso will be taking over from Carlo Ancelotti as the head coach of the Real Madrid first team at the end of the season.

Raul’s departure marks the end of a long and meaningful chapter in his coaching career with the club. He began his journey in 2018, starting as a youth coach with the Cadete B team, which is Real Madrid’s under-15 squad. Thanks to his leadership skills and deep connection with the club, Raul was quickly promoted to manage other youth teams, including the under-19s.
One of Raul’s major achievements came in 2020 when he led Real Madrid’s under-19 team to victory in the prestigious UEFA Youth League. His success in developing young talent earned him the role of head coach for Real Madrid Castilla, the club’s B team that plays in Spain’s third division.

In a heartfelt message posted on Instagram, the 47-year-old Spanish football icon shared his reasons for leaving. Raul wrote:
“As of today, I have informed Real Madrid of my decision to bring my time serving the Club to an end. It has been seven seasons during which I have enjoyed the great passion I’ve had for football since I was a child. I’m certain that these years have helped me grow both as a professional and as a person.”
Raul Gonzalez is one of Real Madrid’s most celebrated legends, having scored an incredible 323 goals in 741 appearances for the club between 1994 and 2010. After retiring from professional football, he returned to Madrid to begin a coaching career that has now spanned seven years.

His decision to leave Real Madrid Castilla comes at a time of transition for the club, with significant changes happening at the senior level. Raul’s future plans remain uncertain, but many football fans and experts believe he could soon take on a coaching role at a top-level club, given his experience and reputation.
As a symbol of Real Madrid’s identity and values, Raul leaves behind a strong legacy in the youth system, where he has played a key role in shaping the next generation of football stars.
