BREAKING NEWS : “Real Madrid president says no to signing a player worth €22 million because it doesn’t fit the club’s plans.”
Real Madrid has decided not to sign Rayan Cherki, a talented 21-year-old player from French club Lyon. According to Real Madrid Confidencial, the club’s president, Florentino Perez, has rejected the idea of bringing Cherki to the team, even though he is available for a low price of just €22 million. In today’s football market, that’s considered a real bargain for a player with his skills and potential.
The main reason is that Real Madrid’s sporting directors believe there’s no room for him in the team next season. With Spanish coach Xabi Alonso expected to take over as manager on June 1st, the club is carefully planning the squad, and they feel that adding another forward like Cherki just doesn’t make sense right now.
This decision is disappointing for Cherki, who has made it clear that he dreams of playing for Real Madrid one day. Some people inside the club also wanted him to join. Even Zinedine Zidane—former Real Madrid manager and someone Perez trusts deeply—had recommended Cherki several times. But not even Zidane’s support could change the club’s mind.
Right now, Real Madrid already has many strong attacking players. Stars like Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, Brahim Diaz, Arda Güler, and Kylian Mbappe are already part of the squad, and Brazilian wonderkid Endrick will also be joining soon. With so many talented players in similar positions, the club feels adding Cherki would only create an overcrowded team, making it harder to keep balance and give everyone enough playing time.
Even though Cherki won’t be coming to Madrid now, he still has a bright future ahead. Several clubs across Europe are interested in him, and it’s likely he’ll find a new team where he can play more often and continue to grow as a player.
Importantly, Real Madrid isn’t shutting the door forever. The club’s head scout, Juni Calafat, will keep watching Cherki’s progress. If he continues to improve, there could still be a chance for him to wear the white jersey in the future.
